Area 51
When driving to Las Vegas, one might want to try and make a pit-stop at the infamous military site - Area 51. Let me assure you - it's easier said than done.
Now, I've been through Nevada several times. Most recently while visiting the Bonneville Salt Flats I took a pit-stop in West Wendover, Nevada.
But I've never tried to find Area 51. I knew that it was in Nevada, but the next step was to figure out where, exactly.
Through several trusty Google searches, I discovered that the site is in Lincoln County - not far from Las Vegas itself.
So, with this new bit of information, I set out to see what I could of Area 51.
Eventually, I came upon a heavily secured and guarded area - what I assumed must have been Area 51.
Now, I wish I had some great story about how I snuck into the lot a la Indiana Jones and discovered aliens being dissected, yada, yada, yada. But I don't.
I did not feel like breaking any laws on that particular day. So, instead I simply drove by and took a few photos. It was a beautiful day with the sun setting, so I made the most of the rest of my detour before heading back to Las Vegas.
Moral of the story - you won't be able to even get remotely close to Area 51, but if you're already headed that way - it is surrounded by a beautiful backdrop of mountains.
