Panathenaic Stadium in Athens
The Olympics are a part of everyone's dreams throughout the world. Once every four years (excluding the Winter Olympics, of course) people from around the globe represent their nation competing for the right to claim that they are the best in the world.
It's something that always compels me to watch. It was an awesome experience being able to visit Panathenaic Stadium in Athens, Greece - home to the first modern-day Olympics.
I have visited here twice, so far. On my second visit I found it much easier to find. It felt as though the city in general was much smaller than before.
It is fairly easy to find - there's a metro station right around the corner from it, which makes for a quick and convenient way to get there.
You do need to pay a small fee if you want to enter. Otherwise, you'll only be able to as far as the barriers seen in the photo above.
It's really not much different than any other stadium, so if you don't think that it'd be worth it then I wouldn't recommend paying to enter. If you're a history buff, however, you will treasure the time you spend wandering around the stadium and arena.
It doesn't take long to visit here - as there's virtually no wait line - so planning to spend around an hour at the Panathenaic Stadium should suffice for most.
