Mt. Pilatus

I love Switzerland. I love the Alps. I love the Alps in Switzerland because of Mt. Pilatus.

I recently visited this mountain on my trip to Switzerland. We were staying in Lucerne at the time when we decided to hike in the Alps.

Obviously, we had planned this beforehand. It took a couple of trains to get to the base of the mountain.

From there, we boarded the cogwheel rail to the summit of the mountain.

The views from atop Mt. Pilatus were breathtaking. Sure, there were plenty of clouds out, but one could still see Swiss towns and lakes as far as the eye could see.

It was quite the experience just looking around on top. There were also several hikes along the mountaintop that my friends and I explored.

There's a visitor's center as well as a restaurant on top. Even a friendly older gentleman playing his alpine horn.

After we had spent several hours on top of the mountain, we began our descent down the side of the mountain, back towards our little town of Lucerne.

It was an all-day affair. Granted - we took an air lift from the very top down for a little while. And we did stop for tobogganing along our path. But - it still took all day.

It was fascinating to see all of the trees, cows and streams along the path. It absolutely felt like we were hiking through the Alps.

It was an incredible experience that I would love to have again on my next trip to Switzerland.
