Connersville, Indiana
Connersville, Indiana. It's probably the proverbial armpit of America. But it has a special place in my heart.
I lived in this tiny Midwest town for seven years growing up - including being there for two years of high school.
So, you could say that I have a lot of memories in this podunk town.
I recently went back here for a short day trip. I was with my brother and father traveling to a BYU football game in Cincinnati, Ohio. We flew into the Indianapolis, Indiana airport because we were able to find $80 round-trip flights there.
We had a rental car and made our way to Cincinnati - a short three-hour drive.
Right in the middle of Indianapolis and Cincinnati is Connersville, Indiana. My brother and I stopped here and spent the day exploring the town and reliving memories.
There's not a whole lot here. It's mostly just surrounded by corn fields and soybean fields any which way you look outside of the main town itself.
The economy is failing since a manufacturing plant closed some years ago. It employed most of the town.
I thoroughly enjoyed reliving memories and seeing places and people that I never imagined that I would see in person again.
I probably don't need to pass through this small town again for another 15 or so years, but it was a great chance to remember a place that helped shape me and make me the way I am today.
