Penn State's Campus
I recently traveled to Pennsylvania by charter plane and stayed for a week. This was my first time visiting Penn State's campus.
I didn't have a rental car upon arriving, so I had to plan out my day-to-day activities with walking in mind.
The first impression that I got from Penn State is that the campus is huge. It's so much bigger than any other campus that I had previously been to.
It's likely not the largest campus in the United States but I imagine that it's up there.
There's a lot to see and explore while at State College. We, of course, had to check out their creamery for ice cream as well as a local store for famous sticky buns.
One day we decided that it would be fun to go see a movie. You'd expect this to be fairly easy in a college town.
We had to walk more than two hours to get to the theater. By the time we got there, the doors were already shut and locked for the last showing. This was just after 10 p.m. local time. Isn't that absurd? How does a theater have its last showing on a weekend before 10 p.m.?
So, we promptly walked back the two hours the way we came. Not ideal but good exercise.
I walked through the actual campus of Penn State probably a dozen times during my visit. It takes well over an hour to walk from one end to another.
We did manage to pass a free art museum on campus that we attended. There are lots of hidden gems like this all throughout the campus.
It was an enjoyable, yet challenging experience that week learning to navigate large areas without a car.
