Brussels, Belgium
I honestly had no idea what to expect my first time in Europe and Brussels set the stage for me.
We arrived early in the morning after a 10 hour flight from the United States. We couldn't check into our Airbnb until 3 p.m. later that afternoon, so we set out exploring the city with our bags. Luckily - we packed light.
I remember marveling at everything we saw. I took far too many pictures. We had a route pre-planned out of different things that we wanted to see, so we set out to see them.
Perhaps the most popular attraction in Brussels is the Mannequin Pis. A statue of a little boy peeing. It was quite underwhelming. It was no more than a foot tall. However, it was quite packed with tourists getting pictures at it.
The city is quite expansive. Though, it mostly felt like a city as opposed to a tourist town.
The best thing that I experienced there were without a doubt the liege waffles. We found some that were only a Euro apiece. There were so good. And so cheap. I can't tell you how many I ended up buying.
In all honesty, I wouldn't mind visiting the city if only to get some more waffles. Other than that, if you're looking for a quiet European place without a lot of frills and thrills, Brussels is for you.
