Boca do Inferno (Hell's Mouth)
Catchy title, huh?
Yeah, I thought so. That's also partially why I wanted to visit the Boca do Inferno or Hell's Mouth. Since I was stationed in Lisbon, Portugal, I was looking to go to one of the best beaches in the area.
After conferring with Google, the beautiful city of Cascais seemed to welcome itself with plenty of great beaches.
What was great about these particular beaches was the Boca do Inferno being located around 20 minutes away with a short walk.
You will most likely be getting to the Boca do Inferno from the Cascais Station. Simply turn right and follow the signs leading you to your final destination.
It's a quick walk that takes you past a park. You can alternatively choose to walk along the coast the entire route. This adds 5-10 minutes to your walking time, but I decided to try it on my return journey. I quite enjoyed it.
No matter which way you go, you'll easily be able to find the Boca do Inferno. There will be plenty of tourists walking there along with you. Just follow the steps down and you'll instantly see Hell's Mouth.
You can capture views from both sides of the mouth. You have the backside view initially, but if you keep on walking down the path, you can get to the other side to see the waves coming into the mouth of the cave.
It's slightly mesmerizing watching the waves crash in.
Additionally, you can venture out to the left a little further for some pictures by the cliffs. Be careful though, the rope barrier stops halfway out there. At those cliffs, there's nothing holding you back against the sea. If you slip and fall, you'll fall a long way down.
The trip to the Boca do Infero was certainly worth the short stop. What's better, is that if you download the city's app, you can ride a bike (located just off the train station) for free to the destination and back. My post on Cascais explains it in further detail.
